Online No Limit Hold’Em Poker Strategy for Playing Junk -Junk hands are tough sometimes for seasoned pros to play, but novice players, and those just getting started they are impossible and will do nothing but get you into trouble and worse, make you pick up bad habits. The number one aspect that new players need to work on is starting hand selection. This is the key to becoming “good” at poker and holding on to your money.Tomorrow I might go into specifics on when to play certain holdings because there are many different circumstances: SnG’s, cash ring games, multi table tournaments, early in a tournament, on the bubble in a tournament, final table strategy, 6-handed table, 9-handed tables, short stacked, big stacked, etc. All these will factor into when you should/would/might play certain cards. but for right now, lets make some loose definitions.

Crap is hands like 9-2, 7-2 T-3 etc. Everybody knows that. But, what about J-7 or K-4? Q-5 or 3-4 suited? Many players will play those holdings and they are CRAP. Don’t play them, just fold them as a general rule. If you do not have a decent kicker, 9 times out of 10 it will bite you in the butt and get you in trouble Dewapoker in a hand that you shouldn’t be playing anyway. You are going to have opportunities to get your chips in, trust me. Don’t be so eager to play that hands like Q-6 from early position look good to you. PATIENCE.How about A-5 or A-4, something like that? NO NO NO. Personally, I will seldom play less than A-J although there may be times that warrant A-T. Bad Aces, as they are called, will do nothing but get you into trouble unless your small card hits with the Ace. In that case, you will probably win the hand and develop the terrible habit of playing A-junk.
3-4 suited, 5-6 suited? NO NO NO. Again, many players have hit flushes and won big hands with cards like this and it soon results in them playing every 2 suited cards that come up. Bad habit. You can always be beaten by a bigger flush (like the guy I put out in a Full Tilt Knockout tournament yesterday who held 8-9 suited and flopped a flush, while I held K-Q suited for the higher flush!) Or worse, a forth card of that suit can come on the Turn or River and then any idiot holding the Ace has you beaten.Anyway, playing junk hands will result too many times in partially hitting your hand and making it appear better than it is. For example, you hold J-9 and the Flop comes J-5-2. Top pair right? Yeah, except you are dominated by A-J, K-J, Q-J, hands that can be very common holdings that you might see. Most players get way too excited when they see that their hand hit and forget that they could be in a very dominated position. Until you have played enough and have discipline enough to either know how to play these types of situations or simply fold them, just take the temptation away and don’t play the hand. Trust me, you will be much more successful that way.
